Markups & Allowances Sub Tab
Only the staff designated as System Administrators need to read this section.
- In the screen below you can set your standard markups for merchandise and any of the four sub-charges.
- When you create a new project these markups will be copied to the project markup, but you can change them at the project level if required.
- It is also important to point out that designers can change the markups at the item level if required.
Markups Column
In the screen below you can set your firm's default markup.
In this example, the markup is 30%. When you create a new project, the markup for that project will be set to 30%.
The freight will be assigned a 15% markup.
Note: On the project detail view you can change the default markups shown below.
Allowances
The best way to explain allowances is to use freight as an example.
Most firms will estimate freight and then bill the actual freight amount. For example, let's say that a firm believes that 10% of the cost of an item should be enough to cover the cost of freight.
In this case, if a chair costs $200.00 then the estimated freight cost would be $200.00 x 0.1 = $20.00 In DesignSmart, the 10% is the "allowance" percent. This is the amount you are allowing for freight.
Remember, that this is the "default" setting. You can change this amount at both the project and item levels.
