How to Save Component Items

The Companion has a special feature for saving component items that can save designers a good deal of time. Here are the steps for saving component items.

Step 1:

First, add the Primary Item DesignSmart. Make note of the item number.

Step 2:

Enter the Component Item information in the Companion as you normally would

Step 3:

Select the name of the project you wish to save it to.

Step 4:

When entering the Item Number, enter the number of the primary item followed by a decimal. The decimal indicates that the item should be saved as a component so DesignSmart will link it to the primary and assign the component the appropriate .01, .02, .03 extension depending on how many items are already linked to the primary

Step 5:

Click the Save Item button

Here is how the component item will appear in the Items List View.
